That's What I Get
Another new video premiere today, and it's a banger from Toronto indie-pop darling, Deanna Petcoff.
Yes! Just in case you missed our last Deanna track, we released an intimate version of Cher's 'Believe' earlier this year which is available everywhere including streaming.
Well this new video was recorded in the same session, live from our Toronto bank-vault location. Safe Sounds is based in a disused bank, which houses a real-life vault. It is within that space that we create and capture these special sound moments.
'That's What I Get' is a Deanna Petcoff original, performed with her usual poise and class. It has been stuck in our head ever since she filmed it; whether we're cleaning our teeth, waking up from a nap or just trying to make dinner, the catchy chorus keeps flowing across our brainwaves.
We'd wish it away, if it wasn't such a good feeling to have it in there. Watch That's What I Get now.
If you like what you hear, check out the full Safe Sounds channel to see the vast array of music videos, live performances and bonus content that we continue to release. Toss us a like. Flip us a subscribe. Bang us a share.
Life isn't forever. This is what you get.
Dark Tapes and Bill Cutbill Unite In Formation
It's release day at Safe Sounds HQ, and a brand new project has just been born!
That's right, Dark Tapes and Bill Cutbill have joined forces on a four-track electronic dystopian EP ~ OBELISK [SS119] ~ which arrives May 26th via Safe Sounds. It's the collaboration you never knew you needed, and can now not bear to live without.
Debut single IN FORMATION is available to watch and stream immediately worldwide on all platforms in existence.
The track features that signature Dark Tapes sound with snarling beats, harrowing strings and a whole lot of glitch, combined with Cutbill's vocals, warm synthesizers and processed soundscapes. Brace yourself and join the adventure now.
OBELISK will be released on strictly limited edition black cassettes with full black Norelco cases. "But how do I pick one up", I hear you shout?!
Grab one at the OBELISK EP release show, June 3rd in Toronto at Handlebar with MOONBEAN, Regina Gently + Nuni. If you can't make it, you can also snag one on the Dark Tapes bandcamp... but be quick.

Dark Tapes concludes - "The OBELISK Cassette is a mysterious artifact, regarded by many experts in astro-science to be NOT of this world. Do you dare look into the onyx-black void, and are you prepared for total destruction of ego as you project your consciousness across a trillion dimensions of time space and physics."
Welcome to the future. The future is dark. Darker than Terminator 1, and way, way darker than Terminator 2.
Video Premiere! Deanna Petcoff performs Cher's Believe
Deanna Petcoff joined us for a very special live session from the Safe Sounds bank vault late last year. We're delighted to share the first of two tracks - a cover of Cher's classic dance anthem, Believe!
Watch the video above or on our YouTube channel.
This is the first thing Deanna has released since her critically acclaimed debut album To Hell With You, I Love You.
"Based in Toronto, ON, Petcoff shaped her own unique brand of beautiful and confessional indie rock through years of devotion to music, sharing stage with the likes of Molly Burch, Tokyo Police Club, The Nude Party and many more. She excels with heart-on-her-sleeve, emotive lyricism that showcases her strength as a songwriter and a vocalist."
Under the mirror ball in the Safe Sounds bank vault, there was definitely a twinkly magic in the air that we hope we were able to capture.

Bill Cutbill Stars In The New Music Video for Lighter
We're continuing to pump a barrage of RUM DO content into the atmosphere for the first time in years. It's all in anticipation of the new EP, 'You Just Have To Be.'
Today marks the release of the music video for 'Lighter', which follows Bill Cutbill on a tranquil psychedelic walk through the Canadian bush at Lake Superior Provincial Park in Ontario. It's the chillest moment on the EP, and probably the least produced song as well.
RUM DO is very much an audiovisual project, with all the music released over the duo's lifespan arriving alongside accompanying visuals. The moving pictures stretch continuously between tracks as a never-ending consciousness, though the format has morphed over time.
Bill Cutbill, who handles the visuals for RUM DO says —
"With this, the final EP, we wanted to reflect the history of RUM DO in the visual progression.
Our debut EP featured visuals in a 3:4 SD format, for a VHS quality, which suited the footage I wanted to use which was shot on old mobile phones. We then raised the bar to 16:9 HD visuals for the second EP, which was then expanded to 4k with the intervening double-a side release.
For this EP, we've circled back to 16:9 HD, whilst incorporating a mix of digitally generated footage, mobile phone footage and manipulated visuals that have been so synonymous with RUM DO. This final chapter is intended to complete the full circle that this project represents."
You Just Have To Be can be purchased on limited edition cassette via Bandcamp. Check out all the tracks on Spotify or visit YouTube for the full visual experience!
